Addenbrookes Reception Refurbishment

Value: £600,000 Duration: 14 weeks

About

The project involved the full refurbishment of the main reception area within an operational medical testing facility located in the centre of a live hospital environment. Additional works were completed within the office areas to upgrade meeting rooms and pods in line with the client’s brand standards. Highline were
engaged to review the design and deliver the scheme through to completion.

Challenges & Solutions

There was initial concern that the refurbishment would cause disruption to the operational use of the facility mainly with the reception area. This was something that the client could not afford. Highline
therefore developed a detailed construction programme identifying the critical risks which could
affect this. Significant planning was undertaken to carry out service isolations, logistics for furniture
deliveries and floor laying which were successfully carried out with minimal impact on the end user.

The site team were in regular communication with the office staff to ensure they were kept informed
of how these works were progressing.

Highline were not able to survey or carry out any validations during the pre-construction phase, which led to challenges working around the live services. The project team developed robust solutions to overcome
these obstacles to achieve a high quality handover ahead of programme.
