Lister Hospital 4th Floor Refurbishment
About
The works included the complete refurbishment of a 10 ensuite bedroom ward. The floor comprised of new a nurse base station, storage, pantry, DU & CU rooms as well as new staff changing shower and welfare spaces. To facilitate the required upgraded standards to all rooms, a new dedicated AHU, air conditioning plant and dirty extract system was designed and installed to service all areas. Finally new medical gas services, medical trunking, power, lighting and architectural / joinery finishes were completed between two live wards which were above and below us.
Challenges & Solutions
We were not able to survey or carry out any validations during the preconstruction period. This meant we could only complete our D&B scope around the services around the building’s structural issues once on site. As soon as the ward was empty, we carried out the soft strip and 3D survey to allow coordination of the services avoiding the concrete down stand beams that were not shown on any record drawings. The new AHU delivery and installation was assisted with flat packing the AHU and having it rebuilt and tested by the manufacture on site. The AHU was crane lifted onto a landing platform and moved to the internal plant space.
