SHEQ:
Health & Safety Overview

Highline Contracts takes pride in maintaining a strong safety management system and culture which complies to ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) standards. The effective management system enables Highline to maintain the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees, subcontractors and others that may be affected by our works.

Highline operate an open and honest approach to health and safety which ensures that any project risks, near misses and incidents are recorded, investigated, discussed, and learned from by all parties.

Our in-house SHEQ Manager, is responsible for maintaining our internal management systems, whilst ensuring that we remain compliant with our legislative duties. This is achieved by regular, thorough internal audits, site inspections and collaborating health and safety data which is discussed within management or project meetings.

In addition to our SHEQ Manager, we have also retained the services of an external Health and Safety Consultant (Flood Projects LLP) who has over 20 years’ experience of working within the construction industry.

SHEQ:
Environmental

Highline Contracts has successfully retained their ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) accreditation for several years. The Environmental Management system works alongside our other ISO accreditations to form an integrated system and allows us to monitor and manage our environmental aspects and impacts and set achievable environmental objectives.

Since 2021 Highline have been thoroughly recording the businesses environmental data from scopes 1, 2 and 3. We have invested in using a reputable external company called Positive Planet who have been assisting Highline in calculating our businesses carbon emission output, creating a carbon reduction plan and then offsetting any emissions produced. Any emissions produced have been offset by contributing towards the Positive Planet Climate Fund which supports many United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

As you will see from the below table Highline's emissions increased ever so slightly last year but this is due to successful and continued business growth with an increase of almost 1.5 million in turnover. As a team we worked tremendously hard to reduce our emissions and we successfully managed to more than halve our emissions in Scope 1 and eliminate all emissions from Scope 2!

Highline continue to promote internal environmental initiatives such as:

• Using local eco-friendly refilling stations for cleaning and welfare products.
• Meat-free Monday office lunches.
• Milk bottle top recycling.
• Grab-a-bag campaigns.
• Air purifying office plants.

SHEQ:
Sustainability

Highline have successfully retained their carbon neutral status since 2021. We are actively monitoring our environmental impact with a plan to achieve all governing targets for a more environmentally friendly, sustainable future.

We fully understand that our clients will have several environmental and sustainability goals for each project. To successfully achieve these goals our staff are trained to evaluate your needs and expectations and are able to produce an environmental and sustainability plan for the project life cycle. Part of this plan will include, but is not limited to:

1. Selecting environmentally friendly, sustainable supply chain partners.
2. Evaluating project plant and equipment specifications and either selecting or promoting sustainable alternatives.
3. Factoring in bio-diversity requirements as necessary.
4. Where possible use re-used or recycled products during construction.
5. Devising a waste management strategy that ensures all waste is either re-used or recycled. Where this is not feasible, we shall ensure that we have considered all possible avenues to divert all waste from landfill.
6. Detailing how environmental data is captured and reported.

Throughout the project life cycle our in-house SHEQ manager shall be reviewing and inspecting the works to ensure compliance with local legislation, sustainable targets, and internal procedures. Our staff have also managed sites that have required projects to meet BREEAM and The Considerate Constructors Scheme standards, some of which we have been able to implement on our sites as standard to ensure high standards of best practise and compliance are being adhered to.
